Abstract
The zircons from the Variscan potassic-alkaline association from the Kraishte and Balkan zones, Bulgaria display extremely large diversity. Several zircons types are presented: rounded crystals, inherited cores with magmatic oscillating rims, euhedral prismatic crystals, and rounded grains with numerous inclusions of U-Th oxides. The broad diversity implies for different origin of the presented species. The presence of inherited cores is best explained by the significant assimilation from the country rocks, prismatic crystals attest for crystallization from magma. The most peculiar is the last zircon types occurring in late and very peralkaline rock varieties. It is indicative for crystallization from peralkaline magma.
