Abstract

ZnO has been adopted as preferred material in transparent transistors and can be very useful in products such as field emission displays (FEDs). In this work, Zinc Oxide nanoflowers/nanoparticles have been synthesized by using sol–gel technique. During synthesis, zinc acetate and distilled water were used precursors. The characterization of synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles was done by field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM). FESEM results revealed the nanoflower type structure of zinc oxide nanoparticles. Further, field emission studies of the grown ZnO nanoflowers were studied and it was observed that due to flower type structure, ZnO nanoparticles have high current density of 30.5 mA/cm2 with low turn on field at 1.2 Vμm−1 and good field enhancement factor.
