Abstract

Metal oxide and zeolite catalysts were examined for the production of methanethiol and dimethyl sulfide by condensation of methanol and hydrogen sulfide. Catalyst acid sites were characterized by investigating the desorption of 1-propanamine. Catalysts as diverse as WO3/ZrO2, La2O3/Al2O3, γ-Al2O3, and H-MFI were active and selective in the production of dimethyl sulfide.
