Abstract

In an ever changing and advancing world, higher education systems have to be responsive to new and novel conditions triggered by the economical, technological and social changes and their demands and higher education systems have contribute positively to those changes. In order to make this positive contribution, the higher education systems have change or transform themselves. Evaluation systems are the basis for this transformation. Without evaluation, the possibility of measuring the success or failure is very weak. Evaluation of the teaching performances of faculty is an imperative fact of education based on the reason that faculty have to open up the doors of their classrooms and make the education an act of public service and by doing this they will be resisting the norms of secrecy. Because of the fact that there are very limited research papers which are dealing with the legislative basis of the evaluation of the teaching performance of faculty in higher education institutions in national literature, this study is important and will contribute to the researchers and applicators of this field. This study analyzed the topic of evaluation of teaching performances of faculty in higher education institutions under three sub sections namely, quality in higher education institutions, system of evaluation for the teaching performances of faculty and finally methods used in the faculties' educational performance evaluation system. From these methods, the five of them which are used frequently were explained in detail and other five of them were explained briefly in this study.
