Abstract

Yield losses caused by larval feeding of alfalfa blotch leafminer, Agromyza Frontella (Rondani), averaged 7.7% in central New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania in second cuttings of alfalfa in 1981 and 1982. Based on pooled data from six fields, the loss was highly significant. An economic injury level of 30 large mines per stem (i.e., mines formed by third [mature] instars), which causes an 11% yield loss, was established.
