Abstract

ABSTRACT The extraordinary development of the industry, which the author suggests might reasonably be named “textiles with rubber” industry, is sketched from the production in 1888 of Dunlop's first pneumatic tyre to the present day when the tyre industry uses annually 50 million pounds of rayon and 20 million pounds of cotton. The impact of the synthetic polymer fibres in production and the possible improved types of rayon on this highly specialized industry is discussed.
