The history of the study of phosphorites is closely related to the personality of a native of Odessa, a graduate (from?) of the Imperial Novorossiysk University (Odessa), one of the first students of Volodymyr Vernadsky scientific school Yakov Vladimirovich Samoilov (1870-1925), professor of the Moscow Agricultural Institute and Moscow University, founder and first director of the Scientific Institute of Fertilizers, founder of the unique Museum of Agronomic Ores, initiator and head of the Commission for the Study of Phosphorites, participant of four International Geological Congresses
