Abstract
The article traces the history of the Botanical garden of the Moscow University in 1804-1863 – the period of formation of national Botanical research: from establishment at the Moscow University the Department of Botany by the Charter of 1804 to its division into two departments under the Charter of 1863. During this period, the professors who headed the Department, were simultaneously Directors of the Botanical garden, acquired by the University in 1805 on the initiative of George-Franz Hoffman (1760-1826) – the first Director of the Botanical garden and the first head of the Department of Botany at Moscow University, one of the founders of the Moscow society of nature testers, the Creator of the Moscow scientific botanical school.
