Abstract

This article examines two proposed solutions regarding the integration of immigrants educated in the socio-cultural context of Quebec: the governmental approach, which focuses primarily on the immigrant's linguistic adaptation to the new setting of socio-professional life; and the transcultural approach, which argues for the disappearance of symbolic, material, and media support for an integration which is thought to be typically quebecois. This author favors modernizing the teaching programs of Quebec history and literature in order to establish new grounds for dialogue and intercultural mediation between immigrants and the Quebec population.
