Abstract
In this article, on the basis of new archival materials, some problems of the life and activities of the Kazakh sultans of the Middle Zhuz (Military and sociopolitical tribal structure of the Kazakhs-author)are analyzed in relation to the second half of the XVIII century. The author dwells in detail on the activities of the descendants of Genghis Khan, mainly in the area of the Irtysh (Ertis River-kaz.) border line. These are such sultans as: Sultanmamet, Urus, Khudaymendy, Abulfis, Chingis, Uali, Tauke, Menkush, Zholbarys, Batay, Daiyr, Sadyk, etc. Also some issues of the transition of the sultans and their subjects to the right bank of the Irtysh are analyzed. The author cites the correspondence of the sultans with the military administration about the stolen cattle, the escape of slaves, and so on. This article also discusses issues related to the sending of the deputation of the sultans to the capital of the Russian Empire, as well as their acceptance of Russian citizenship. The issues of building houses for the sultans at the expense of the state treasury stand apart. The relationship of the sultans to the Russian interpreters and mullahs, who received salaries from the treasury and served the empire, is described in a very interesting way.Archival materials are mainly taken from the Historical Archives of the Omsk Region.
