Abstract

IN 1962, Hamblin1 and later Calvert and Veevers2 took up the use of X-ray radiography in the investigation of structures in sediments. The method has been adopted by the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute, where it has been in use since August 1963. Merely consisting of sending X-rays through a sample and recording the differences in mass or absorption (or both) by means of a suitable film, the method is rapid, simple and non-destructive and is capable of rendering information which often could not otherwise be obtained.
