Abstract
The red‐violet color of Xe(OTeF5)6 (1) must be attributed to the bonding state of hexavalent xenon which possesses a nonbonding electron pair: Te(OTeF5)6 has no such pair and is colorless. The extremely light‐sensitive compound (1) probably exists as a monomeric molecule with covalent bonds. equation image
