Abstract

Abstract For detecting powder-binder separation in the injection molded bulk material, the internal microstructures of SiC green bodies with different initial solid loadings were studied by X-ray tomography. First, this paper proposed a method for calculating the density of SiC green bodies. Next, a quantitative relation between gray values in the reconstructed images and the solid loadings of green bodies was determined. Then, after 3D reconstruction by using the gray scale images, the different powder-binder separation phenomenon in the green bodies with different initial solid loadings were analyzed. In the all analyzed samples, binder accumulation regions were mainly found near the gate and die wall.
