Abstract

Abstract For detecting powder-binder separation in the L-shaped mould, the L-shaped and cuboid SiC green bodies were scanned by using X-ray tomography. Then, a quantitative relation between the gray values in the reconstructed images and the solid loadings was determined. Next, the solid loading distribution of the L-shaped green bodies was discussed. In the analyzed samples, the binder accumulation area were mainly found near the gate and mould boundary, and the high powder content area formed in the middle lower part of the mould. Finally, the effects of three injection parameters (injection speed, temperature and injection pressure) on the powder-binder separation during mould filling were analyzed.
