Abstract

The broadening of X-ray powder diffraction peak just above Tc, the cubic-to-tetragonal transformation temperature, reported by Kino and Miyahara is re-examined and concluded to originate from coexistence of the two phases due to wide distribution of Tc. This distribution of Tc is found to change by the sample treatments; the sample prepared by firing the original materials for longer time has a smaller distribution of Tc. The thermal hysterisis of the transformation is also studied and compared with the free energy expression by Kataoka and Kanamori.
