Abstract

One-dimensional iodide organic salts often present a similar organization of triiodide chains embedded in an organic matrix. At room temperature, these chains may present an important structural disorder characterized by the absence of long-range order in the chain direction. As the temperature is lowered, order generally develops, leading to an order-disorder phase transition of an original type. It is illustrated on some compounds by X-ray scattering techniques.
