Abstract

The structural changes in cellulose following plastic flow under pressure and the effect of solvents of different polarity on the structural transitions are studied. It is shown that under conditions where a high pressure and shear stress act simultaneously, alkaline cellulose is formed when the cellulose reacts with solid alkali, the degree of polymerization of which is directly proportional to the initial concentration of alkali in the mixture.
