Abstract

The orthorombic to simple cubic thallous halide phase transformation induced by temperature increase is studied by means of X-ray and UV photoelectron spectroscopy. The structural transformation is well evidenced by an abrupt decrease of the binding energy separation between the iodine and the thallium core levels at the phase transition temperature. Valence band spectra recorded for both crystal forms by using the HeI radiation evidence modification in the band structure.
