Abstract
Ensure that areas are labelled clearly. Then provide blank laminated labels of interesting shapes and different sizes, as well as wet wipe pens, so that the children can write their own labels for things that they make outside. Perhaps, for example, they might like to turn the washing line into a tent, or build a house for the fairies? Or maybe the playhouse could be turned into a spy den? Ensure that the adults notice the labels and ask questions about what they represent. This shows the children that their writing is valued and gives them the opportunity to talk about what they have written and why. These labels can be wiped clean when the play is finished and used again in the future.
