Abstract

In this work, the mixed mode fracture of woven carbon fiber composite is performed to measure the fracture force and to calculate the fracture toughness of the composite. A compact tension shear fixture is modeled and fabricated for the mixed mode fracture test. Compact tension specimen were made from woven carbon fiber epoxy that was fabricated using hand layup. A detailed simple displacement tracking method was applied to measure the displacement of the crack and the crack propagation rate.
