Abstract

The preface of his text on electromagnetics [l], Marcus Zahn stated that, Electromagnetic field theory is often the least-popular course in the electrical engineering curriculum. Heavy reliance on vector and integral calculus can obscure physical phenomena so that the student becomes bogged down in the mathematics and loses sight of the application. Edmund K. Miller, in a recent article [2], also noted that unless and until the problems with electromagnetics education are resolved, this area is likely to inexorably continue its steady decline into the status of an academic backwater discipline.
