Abstract

How is digitalization changing our working world? The ifaa - Institute of Applied Industrial Engineering and Ergonomics interviewed 27 experts from different companies about their experience with the introduction of digital technologies in production and production-related areas. In the AWA project, a practice-oriented approach was explicitly chosen, since the desire for insights into the use of digital technologies from companies for companies was the reason for this project. The effects of the introduction on the organization and the employees were surveyed. The evaluation of the examples collected so far revealed above all a reduction in ancillary activities, such as searching for and collecting information or commuting times. This has created more resources for employees to pursue their main activities. However, it should be noted that in most cases the observed changes were of a moderate nature in terms of requirements, competencies, or load levels. More extensive effects tended to be the exception - there are examples here that show both desirable and negative manifestations. The involvement of future users was consistently cited as a key success factor.
