Abstract

A method for the selection of the working fluid and preliminary design of an Organic Rankine Cycle system driven by solar energy are reported in this article. The performances of nine working fluids in various working conditions were analyzed, based on the turbine inlet pressure and temperature. The results from the superheated and saturated cycles are compared; and the efficiencies for the nine working fluids in different cycles are calculated. Latent heat, critical temperature, liquid heat capacity and gas heat capacity show complicated effects on the efficiency of the cycle. The thermal stability experiment of the optimal candidate is also reported in the article, and the results show that MM (hexamethyldisiloxane) is stable with the material of the system up to 300°C.
