Abstract

The profile of the creative and cultural (C&C) sector has risen worldwide over the last twenty years for a combination of economic and social reasons. Economic gurus have argued that the industries that comprise the sector are paradigmatic examples of the type of knowledge-based industries that will constitute the basis of nation states’ prosperity in the twenty-first century (Porter & Ketels, 2003). Socially, the sector symbolizes the transactional freedom to work creatively, unencumbered by bureaucratic work regimes that many people claim they are looking for (Hesmondhalgh & Baker, 2011), as well as an opportunity to design products and services that reflect the forms of cultural diversity which are an increasing feature of advanced industrial economies (Bilton, 2007).KeywordsLabour MarketSocial CapitalKnowledge EconomyCultural SectorIntermediary AgencyThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
