Abstract
The work system plays an important role in a company facing tight business competition. PT XYZ is an agroindustry that processes freshwater fish. The company needs to evaluate the current work system for improvement because the company work system is considered not optimal, which is identified as always falling behind in production as well as low productivity. The finding is considered contrary to the fact that there is a high presence and high work ethics. Based on the symptoms mentioned above, there is a need for ergonomics intervention and assessment of the work system in light of worker performance. This study is twofold first, to evaluate work systems using a macro-ergonomics organization survey questionnaire (MOQS) and second, to recommend improvements based on evaluating the effects of work system components using the 5W1H approach. Based on the study conducted, there are three conclusions. First, it can be concluded that the effect of all components simultaneously working system in PT XYZ on employee performance is quite significant at 61.6%. Second, the system components work the organisation’s condition, employment, physical environment, social environment, equipment and machinery, and individual characteristics. Partially, components with the most significant contribution are the work (X2) amounted to 18.0%, and equipment and machinery (X5) amounted to 34.8%. Third, further improvements in the work system recommended are (1) establishing work schedules of employees into two shifts, (2) implementing an incentive system based on performance, and (3) rearranging the layout of the production area.
