Abstract

In ps.-Dem. 59.34, Apollodoros calls as witnesses "bystanders" and "spectators" of the dinner during which Neaira had sexual intercourse with a lot of people, including slaves. Are they "eyewitnesses"? This unique designation in forensic speeches is in fact a way to distinguish them from other guests who took part in this orgy.
