Abstract

Abstract: Scribonius Largus, in his collection of pharmaceutical recipes ( Compositiones ), describes ten as having been used by members of the imperial family, including Livia. A model from the field of modern consumer research reveals that Livia used such endorsements to create a persona of discernment and intellectualism, qualities hitherto largely overlooked.
