Abstract

Biodiesel have a possible to Interchange standard Diesel oil in C. I Engine. Biodiesel is utilized in unadopted diesel engines. The transesterification of biodiesel is the combination of oil and alcohol with facilitate of catalyst. Catalysts are classified as alkali, acid, enzymes and heterogenous acid or base catalyst. Feed stocks with higher fatty acids treated with acid catalyst so as to avoid saponification. In this experiment we are using “Sulfonated Activated Carbon” as heterogenous acid catalyst due to its high surface area and acidic nature. Oleum 20 is used to sulfonate the “Coconut Shell” activated carbon. The biodiesel is engine tested to show significantly reduce in emissions such as CO, HC, CO 2 , NOx, O 2 . However, there is a slight Increment in NOx emissions. Sulfonated activated carbon increases the reusability in transesterification.
