Abstract

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a range of conditions characterized by problems and challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech, memory and nonverbal communication. The main aim of this paper is to educate children suffering from autism spectrum disorders effectively with the help of video games so that even with their conditions, they can learn to identify the alphabet and memorize it with ease. The game being developed uses a simple point and shoot functionality via ray casts. There is a score system that increments or decrements the score based on the object being hit. The player can move the main character using the WASD keys and aim using the mouse. To make the game child friendly, the inclusion of objects such as guns has been avoided to the most. There game’s screen displays the objective of each level so that player can easily identify which letter objects are supposed to be targeted. Using NavMeshAgents and NavMesh, the characters movements have been tracked and controlled. Concepts such as path finding and walkability tests have been included. Objects have been assigned health and scores using scripts. Based on the best of understanding, these concepts have been explained further in the paper.
