Abstract

In this research, we made two models of circular columns, one with mild steel and another with stainless steel. Also, we differ it by following two methods. (i) CFT mild steel and stainless steel columns, (ii) CFDST mild steel and stainless steel columns. Empty mild steel tube and stainless steel tube were also tested for comparison. M 30 grade of concrete is used in this research. The mix ratio of 1:0.94:1.89, W/C ratio 0.40 is used. Necessary coupon tests were carried out to determine the properties of the stainless steel tube and mild steel tube. The compressive strength of the above said specimens are to be tested and their result will be compared. Test results show that the strength of the stainless steel column is far better than the mild steel. The performance of the stainless steel columns performs good and can be used widely in structural applications to capitalize the benefits like enhanced bearing strength, corrosion protection, fire resistance capacity, faster construction, aesthetic appearance, lower maintenance cost, and overall economy in labour, fireproofing, plastering and painting.
