Abstract

In the present paper, wind characteristics have been analysed for three agricultural sectors in Kerman Iran. Wind data collected from three synoptic stations for the period of July 2006 to June 2011 at the height of 40 m has been used to study the monthly and annual wind energy potential. Two statistical methods (Meteorological and Weibull) have been applied to determine the monthly wind energy and density. Wind speed directions and the percentages of wind energy based on wind speeds of more than and equal to 3 m/s have been investigated. A technical assessment has been done to determine the electricity generation from five different wind turbines having capacity of 26 kW, 100 kW, 300 kW, 600 kW and 660 kW. This study is a first stage in a longer project and will be followed by an economic analysis on off-grid and grid connected wind energy power systems.
