Abstract

Nigel Coates lets us into the creative world of messy play that Alsop favoured as a way to teach architecture – the live-in, eat-in, drink-in workshop. Such practices disrupted assumed modes of operation for architects and provoked new spatial and formal opportunities. His workshops, studios and lectures were a challenging mixture of kindergarten, party and questioning observations, all conducted with critical and colourful exuberance.
