Abstract
Much has been said about the wildlife in East Africa, how it is attracting foreign visitors with their foreign exchange from around the world. Some of these reports suggest all is well in East Africa, at least as compared with more critical areas in the Tropics. While Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania have achieved so much in their early years of independence that it is unfair merely to say they have far surpassed what the doomcriers were prophesying in the early 1960s, theirs is clearly a record which can afford a closer appraisal of what has been done together with what further might have been done.
