Abstract

ABSTRACTIn this letter, the use of epsilon‐near‐zero (ENZ) to load a microstrip patch antenna has been investigated. It is known that ENZ material may help improving the transmission through a boundary condition and that the scattering parameters may be completely independent of such boundary properties. This idea has been demonstrated to significantly increase the bandwidth of a rectangular microstrip patch antenna. To realize the ENZ medium, a periodic wire media has been designed, simulated, fabricated and tested. Simulation results show good agreement with measurements. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
