Abstract
The rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (RDRA) excited using a novel feeding structure to achieve wideband characteristics has been proposed in this article. The hybrid antenna concept has been utilized to excite the higher-order modes in RDRA and these modes are chosen close enough to enhance the bandwidth of the proposed antenna. The proposed hybrid DRA operates over the frequency band from 1.79 GHz – 3.18 GHz. The presented design finds its application for WLAN (2.4 GHz), WiMAX (2.5 GHz), PCS (1.85 GHz - 1.99 GHz), UMTS (1.92 GHz -2.17 GHz), WCDMA (2.1 GHz), and wireless broadband (2.3 GHz – 3.18 GHz).
