Abstract

A broadband circularly polarized (CP) cross-dipole antenna with parasitic ground strips is designed. The antenna is composed of cutting-off elliptical arms as driven element, four rotated grounded metal cuboids as parasitic element and a square ground plane as reflector. A pair of vacant-quarter printed rings are adopted to feed the antenna by a sequential rotated way, which could excite 90° phase difference for achieving CP radiation. Note that the parasitic metal cuboid is directly connected to the ground plane and there is no air between them. The broadband CP operation could be realized through utilizing these elements to stimulate multiple CP resonances. The measured results reveal the proposed antenna features a broad IBW of 103.3% (1.01-3.17 GHz), and a wide ARBW of 86.4% (1.25-3.15 GHz), which could meet the need of broadband communication.
