Abstract

A wide-angle scanning phased array antenna based on metasurface is proposed in this paper. It is made up of a 1*6 magneto-electric (ME) dipole antenna array and a phase gradient metasurface (PGM). The PGM consists of 6*12 metasurface units. The PGM units have a high transmission (-2.4dB) and 2*π phase shift. The PGM can increase the ME dipole antenna array's scanning range. According to simulation results of CST Microwave Studio, the phased array can scan a beam between -57° and 57° with a gain fluctuation of 3.26 dB at 7GHz and exhibits a large angle scanning range in the frequency band of 6.7–7.1GHz. This antenna has a promising application in microwave imaging and low-cost phased arrays.
