Abstract

This paper is part of a more extensive research project focusing on the mediation of rhythmic elements in literary translation. The aim is to throw light on various manifestations of rhythm and to discuss some principal factors constituting rhythm in narrative writing. The research data discussed here are examples from a comparative analysis of literary texts translated from English into Finnish. Attention is attached to the types of rhythm-related shifts translators have applied in the translation process, as well as elements that have not been changed in the process.
