Abstract

The article presents management science research on teams in the workplace. The emergence of leaders within teams through informal organizational processes is examined. The concept of leader-member exchange (LMX), the personal interaction between a leader and member of a group, is discussed in terms of its effect on the emergence of informal team leaders. The emergence of team leaders through LMX is found to occur most often when the shared vision of success of the team is high.
