What to Do with Kafka, or Where's My Prize?

Abstract

While much has been written about Roth and Kafka, virtually nothing is known about Roth’s being honored with the first International Kafka Prize in 2001 and the comedy in receiving the award that followed. From new material in the Roth archive, the story can at last be told, although the disposition of the award, like a Kafkaesque mystery, remains unknown.
