Abstract

In August-October 1999 our center conducted a sociological survey on "The Interests and Needs of Residents of Moscow and the Moscow Region and What They Expect from Institutions of State Power." The survey sample comprised 891 persons, 43.9 percent of whom were men and 56.1 percent women. The respondents' age ranged from eighteen to seventy. A total of 52.2 percent of the respondents had a higher or incomplete higher education, 26.5 percent a secondary specialized education, and 19.6 percent a secondary or incomplete secondary education. The survey covered all groups of Russian society: working people, including working pensioners (60.5 percent); nonworking pensioners (15.2 percent), unemployed people and housewives (6.8 percent), and students at higher and secondary specialized institutions (17.5 percent).
