Abstract

Abstract: Primary postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) complicates the postpartum up to 11% of deliveries with different incidences based on geographical regions and is the first cause of maternal deaths, accounting for 25% of cases. Tranexamic acid may play a role in the delicate postpartum balance in case of PPH, inhibiting the conversion of plasminogen to plasmin and reducing the degradation of fibrin. We analyze literature evidence and the possible role of tranexamic acid in clinical practice and future scenarios.
