Abstract

Are virtual reality systems dangerous to society or a valuable tool? If deemed safe, is it appropriate for everyone to use, or only certain populations and age groups? This research, through a survey of young adults, aims to display the ideal virtual living in the minds of current or potential users. The survey results show that most of the participants have little experience using VR devices but many of them have concerns regarding health and safety. The survey results also indicate strong feelings of VR use including personalization of VR worlds, use in the education system, and virtual laws. The research is of value because as VR devices become more affordable and provide increasingly realistic experiences, the number of users is likely to increase. With a larger population using these systems, there is a higher potential for negative experiences, whether social, physical, or mental.
