Abstract

ABSTRACT Apparel exports play a vital role in the economy of Bangladesh. The apparel industry contributes to country’s GDP, generates employment, reduces poverty, and is the most important sector for Bangladesh’s socio-economic development. However, little research is available on the individual firm resources of the Bangladesh apparel sector. The purpose of this paper is to explore the unique resources claimed by the Bangladeshi apparel exporting firms and identify the key resources that assist in achieving competitive advantage. A web-based content analysis of texts available on ‘About Us' or related sections of the Bangladeshi apparel export firms was analysed. The results of content analysis revealed several unique key resources claimed by the apparel exporting firms of Bangladesh. Examining these firm resources will allow sourcing personnel, foreign buyers, owners and government policymakers to better understand the Bangladesh’s apparel export industry.
