Abstract

We read the article entitled "Second-look endoscopy after POEM for all, some or none: The more you see, the more you find!"1 , which is a response to our article entitled "Importance of second-look endoscopy after per-oral endoscopic myotomy for safe postoperative management"2 . In our retrospective study (n=497), the rate of newly-detected adverse events (nAE) during second-look endoscopy (SE) that required endoscopic intervention or deviation from the normal postoperative course were investigated. nAE were identified in 12 patients; 8 (1.6%) entry site dehiscence; 2 (0.4%) submucosal hemorrhage or hematoma; and 2 (0.4%) dehiscence of an intraoperative perforation site after endoclip closure.
