Abstract

If you decide to run a Web server, you should carefully consider what you want to serve before you choose software. The main issues are Web content creation and interactive content capability, scalability and traffic handling, security, and ease of use. If you want to set up a Web page to promote a company, for example, will your Web server software came with graphics and HTML software that will help you make your pages? If you plan to add interactive content, what kind of scripting does your server software support (like CGI, Perl, and/or Java)? What level of demand do you expect your site to have per day, and how does the Web server software scale up to large numbers of connections?
