Abstract

SUMMARY Developments in LGBT psychotherapy are best understood by taking stock of the past while preparing for the future. Using a personal and historical perspective, the last forty years of psychology is assessed. This is a personal history of key events in the removal of homosexuality from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, as well as the evolution of gay-affirmative mental health practices.
