Abstract
The wear of materials by a stream of impinging solid particles is desclibed as or sand erosion. Sand erosion is a serious problem for many equipments which deal with powder. Some wear-resistant materials were tested by an air-blast erosin test apparatus, and the characteristics of wear were investigated. It was consequently found that the volume loss of materials was in proportion to the crater depth, and the volume loss was related to parameters as follows. log W = Alogx + B, x = f(a, V, d, Hm, Hp, ρ) Where W: volume loss, A, B: constants, a: impingrment angle, V: particle velocity, d: particle diameter, Hm: hardness of material, Hp: hardness of particle, ρ: specific gravity of particle The value A and B was calculated from the experimental data, and the volume loss could be estimated from the test conditions (including properties of material and particle).
