Abstract

Abstract In this study a pure NiP and NiP-TiO2 composite coatings are deposited on EN8 steel using electroless plating to improve the wear and frictional properties of EN8 steel. The wear behavior was investigated through a Pin on Disc Tribometer and the test was carried out against the counterpart of SS-304 grade stainless steel. The worn surface, elemental composition and surface hardness of the coating were analyzed by Trinocular Microscope, Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) and Micro hardness test respectively. Experimental results indicated that NiP-TiO2 composite coatings have better wear properties when compared to NiP coating.
