Abstract
In this paper, the development of a new wavelet transform based multi-location double line to ground fault detection and classification technique for twelve phase series capacitor compensated transmission line is presented. Using the proposed technique, the multi-location faults can be detected, classified and the faulted phase can be identified simply, by evaluating the magnitudes of D1 norm of twelve phase currents. The validity of the proposed technique is exemplified using a 765 kV, 50 Hz twelve phase transmission system simulated in MATLAB software. Daubechie-5 wavelet is utilized for the processing and extracting features of the twelve phase current signals. Practicability of the proposed technique is tested under extensive variations of fault type, fault inception time, fault location, fault resistance and ground resistance. Test results represent that the proposed technique effectively detects and classifies all types of multi-location double line to ground faults despite of fault parameters variation.
